Introduction

ETU Foundation is such a non-governmental organization engaged to promote and protect disadvantaged class of the community through provisioning the basic and human rights which can act for changing their “Condition” and “Position”. The condition focuses on economic change of disadvantaged groups with empowerment and position focuses on their social change with social empowerment. The above short statement on condition and position did not perceive on couple of days, but facing long problems, challenges and other socioeconomic factors of the community. However, the present organizational profile will assist the readers especially development partners, donors’ communities to know or get a clear picture about ETU foundation that will assist to think or re-think to extend hands for a new partnership with ETU foundation in future endeavor. It is noted that, this profile will periodically updated as its nature of circulation to concerned stakeholders.

How & Why did ETU Foundation Emerge and Evolve?

ETU foundation has a short history to emerge and it’s evolving gradually. The village Patherghata under Jhaudanga of Satkhira district of Bangladesh was very Impoverish area where most of the people were living in under poverty. They did not have any type of services from any sources that could help them to improve their poverty, so they were bound to combat against poverty and other socioeconomic burdens also influenced them in becoming to resource poor with their families, relatives and other neighbors. Therefore, then rural prevailing circumstances were puzzled a group of community development thrusting peoples of whom general secretary was one of them. Under his leadership, these groups met several time with the local community peoples who were combating against poverty how they could change their condition, through what way, in adopting which approach and other issues to learn from them. At one stage, these group and other deprived community peoples jointly agreed and decided to form a community organization. The consequence of those circumstances, ETU Foundation was formed with a community resolution (as to form a general committee) in 1988. The ETU became a new born child in the field of community development. The general community undertook meeting periodically and made resolutions with decisions what they could take what for implementation with communities through a voluntary works. Passing few months with different type of actions ETU Foundation got government formal registration on 12 December 1989 from social service department as NGO.

Legislative Registration:

ETU Foundation has been registered with concerned department as part of legislative matter that makes ETU Foundation accountable to communities for voluntary works and also receiving the donations, financial grants from internal and external sources. The legislative registration also reinforces the ETU Foundations, to proper exercise the governance structure with approved constitutional agenda.
