Projects

ETU Foundation’s project portfolio reflects our commitment to inclusive, climate-resilient, and community-driven development. Our work spans multiple sectors and geographies, addressing interconnected challenges related to livelihoods, climate vulnerability, food security, social inclusion, and institutional capacity. Each project is designed through participatory processes, rooted in local context, and aligned with national priorities and global development frameworks, particularly the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

We categorize our work into three interlinked areas:

  1. Completed and Ongoing Initiatives
  2. Flagship Integrated Programs
  3. Upcoming and Strategic Development Projects

Across all projects, our focus remains consistent: enabling communities to build resilience, access opportunities, and shape sustainable futures.

I. Completed and Ongoing Projects

1. Community Resilience and Climate Adaptation Initiatives

ETU Foundation has implemented multiple community-based initiatives focused on strengthening resilience to climate-related risks. These projects have supported communities affected by flooding, salinity intrusion, erratic rainfall, and environmental degradation—particularly in climate-vulnerable regions.

Key areas of intervention include:

  • Community-led climate risk assessments and adaptation planning
  • Promotion of climate-resilient livelihoods and diversified income sources
  • Ecosystem restoration through tree plantation and soil conservation

Through participatory planning and local leadership engagement, these initiatives have strengthened community preparedness, reduced vulnerability, and enhanced adaptive capacity.

Impact Highlights:

  • Improved local awareness of climate risks and adaptation strategies
  • Strengthened community disaster response mechanisms
  • Increased adoption of climate-resilient agricultural practices

Relevant SDGs:
SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land), SDG 11 (Sustainable Communities)

2. Livelihoods and Economic Empowerment Programs

ETU Foundation has implemented livelihood-focused initiatives aimed at enhancing income security and economic resilience for vulnerable households. These programs have supported small-scale producers, women entrepreneurs, and youth through skills development, enterprise support, and access to markets.

Key interventions include:

  • Training on sustainable agriculture and value-added production
  • Support for micro-enterprises and cooperative models
  • Market linkage facilitation and value-chain development
  • Financial literacy and savings group formation

By strengthening local economic systems, these projects have helped households reduce dependency on external assistance and build long-term economic stability.

Impact Highlights:

  • Increased household income and livelihood diversification
  • Improved access to local and regional markets
  • Enhanced economic participation of women and youth

Relevant SDGs:
SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 8 (Decent Work), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities)

3. Education, Youth, and Community Capacity Building

ETU Foundation has supported education and youth-focused initiatives that promote learning, leadership, and civic engagement. These projects have focused on improving access to education, strengthening community learning structures, and empowering youth as agents of change.

Activities have included:

  • Community learning centers and youth engagement programs
  • Leadership development and life skills training
  • Digital literacy and awareness initiatives
  • Community mobilization and volunteer engagement

These efforts have contributed to stronger local leadership, improved learning outcomes, and greater youth participation in community development processes.

Relevant SDGs:
SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions)

II. Flagship Integrated Programs (Ongoing)

1. Integrated Climate–Livelihood Resilience Program

This flagship program integrates climate adaptation, livelihoods, and community development into a single, cohesive framework. It operates across vulnerable rural and peri-urban areas, addressing interconnected risks related to climate change, poverty, and environmental degradation.

Core components include:

  • Climate-smart agriculture and sustainable land management
  • Livelihood diversification and enterprise development
  • Community-led adaptation planning
  • Ecosystem restoration and conservation

This integrated model enables communities to strengthen economic resilience while safeguarding natural resources.

2. Community Health, WASH, and Nutrition Initiative

This ongoing program addresses public health challenges by improving access to safe water, sanitation, hygiene, and basic health services. It integrates behavior change communication with infrastructure development and community engagement.

Key elements include:

  • Safe water access and sanitation infrastructure
  • Hygiene promotion and health education
  • Nutrition awareness and maternal-child health support
  • Community health volunteer networks

The initiative contributes to improved health outcomes and reduced vulnerability to disease outbreaks.

3. Gender Equity and Social Inclusion Program

ETU Foundation’s gender and inclusion work cuts across all thematic areas, ensuring that women, persons with disabilities, and marginalized groups are active participants in development.

This program focuses on:

  • Women’s leadership and economic empowerment
  • Gender-responsive planning and budgeting
  • Disability inclusion and accessibility
  • Prevention of gender-based violence

The program strengthens social cohesion and promotes equitable access to resources and opportunities.

III. Upcoming Strategic Projects

1. Climate-Resilient Agro-Processing and Value Chain Hub

ETU Foundation is developing a climate-resilient agro-processing and value-chain hub designed to support smallholder farmers and agri-entrepreneurs.

This project aims to:

  • Reduce post-harvest losses through modern processing and storage
  • Add value to local agricultural products
  • Create green jobs and local enterprises
  • Strengthen market linkages and food security

The hub will integrate renewable energy solutions, efficient logistics, and inclusive business models, contributing to climate adaptation and economic growth.

Target SDGs: 2, 8, 9, 12, 13

2. Climate-Resilient Aquaculture and Livelihoods Initiative

Building on local knowledge and ecological conditions, this initiative focuses on sustainable aquaculture and climate-resilient livelihoods in vulnerable coastal and riverine areas.

Key components include:

  • Environmentally responsible aquaculture practices
  • Community-based water management
  • Livelihood diversification for fishing households
  • Market access and value addition

The project aims to strengthen food security, enhance income stability, and reduce climate-related risks.

Target SDGs: 1, 2, 13, 14

3. Renewable Energy–Integrated Cold Storage and Community Energy Systems

This upcoming project will establish renewable energy–powered cold storage and community energy systems to reduce post-harvest losses and improve food system resilience.

Key features include:
